When you work in publishing long enough, you learn to recognize the difference between a book that fills a slot on a list and a book that genuinely contributes to a conversation. I’m grateful to say that our partnership with Trey Ferguson has always been about the latter.

That’s why I’m pleased to share that Lake Drive Books has re-signed Trey for a new project.

Our first book together, Theologizin’ Bigger: Homilies on Living Freely and Loving Wholly, invited readers to reengage imagination and empathy as essential dimensions of sacred life.

This next book builds on that foundation while moving in a fresh direction.

Working under the tentative title God Still Loves the World: Imagination, Compassion, and the Journey to Ourselves, the project grows out of Trey’s widely appreciated “New Living Treyslation” podcast. Through fresh renderings of familiar passages, Trey invites readers to hear scripture in their “heart language” again—recovering imagination, compassion, and courage for a chaotic world.

Across thirty curated entries, Trey revisits biblical passages and puts them in his own vernacular—not to be provocative for its own sake, but to clear away layers of overfamiliarity. Trey’s Treyslations help us hear them again.

Structurally, each entry will include a Treyslation, a reflection, and a prayer. We’re shaping approximately 60,000 words into a cohesive collection designed for thoughtfulness and transformation.

As a publisher, I care about both craft and integrity. This project reflects both. It engages scripture seriously while acknowledging the complexity of our cultural moment. It invites readers to rediscover grounding, imagination, and compassion in a time that often feels chaotic.

I’m proud that Lake Drive Books continues to steward Trey’s work, and I’m grateful for the trust he’s placed in us. If Theologizin’ Bigger opened a door, I believe God Still Loves the World will invite readers even further inside.

More details—including timing and cover—are to come. You can also watch for updates by following Trey on social media (@pastortrey05) or his Substack. For now, I’m simply honored to share the news.
