I strongly encourage you to watch this powerful film from bestselling Jesus and John Wayne author and historian Kristin Kobes Du Mez and Carl Byker illustrating the reach of patriarchy and the devastation of women in the name of God and religion by so much of our religious culture in America. These aren’t isolated cases but a widespread phenomenon that is consistently dismissed, minimized, and even demonized.
Hear from the women in this documentary. They have the the stories that must be told.
It can be uncomfortable to learn, difficult to understand, jarring to fully realize. It seems unbelievable that families, parents, and trusted religious leaders would engage in and enable sexual abuse. This is why it’s not changed. This is why suffering continues.
Watch for Lake Drive author Christa Brown, carefully and powerfully discussing her abuse and experiences as one of the first to speak out against the inaction and ongoing negligence of the Southern Baptist Convention. You can learn more about Christa and her books here.
